How to be happy
I’ll be happy if ….. I’ll be happy when…
Do you often hear people saying that statement? Or is it you who often make that statement? If yes, it seems that you are not happy now. If you are not happy now, it is likely that you won’t be happy tomorrow. Don’t wait to be happy. Happiness is something that you can feel now no matter what happens.
Research has shown that our talent for happiness is, to a large degree, determined by our genes. Many psychologists who study happiness believe that we can pursue happiness. How?
Here are the basic ways to be happy:
First of all is being thankful. This is the first thing that you should do to make you feel happy. Being alone, having little money, or facing any other problems can make us unhappy, but if we are thankful for other good things given to us, we can feel happy.
Next is forgiving. Research has found out that holding a grudge and nursing grievances can affect our physical as well as our mental health. Forgiving can make us happier, or at least feel better, because it breaks the cycle of hatred, resentment, anger and pain that is often passed on to those around us. So, forgive anyone that has hurt you and also forgive yourself too if you think you had make mistakes.
Third is controlling over all negative thoughts and feelings. Negative thoughts and feeling are like poisons. Free yourself from all negative thoughts and feelings, then, you’ll be able to feel happy.
Another way to be happy is by being engaged in meaningful activities. Different people may find different activities as their meaningful activities. Meaningful activities are any activities in which our mind becomes thoroughly absorbed in a meaningful task that challenges our abilities. Well, it should be positive activities.
Last is fostering friendship. Life will never be the same without any friends. One Australian study found that people over 70 whom had the strongest network of friends lived much longer. So, it’s true that friend is a source of happiness. Which friends? Good friends, of course.
